Don’t miss this exciting event at which finalists from the Global Challenge to Prevent Breast Cancer will present their bold ideas for breast cancer prevention research in a live competition. Among the finalists are Silent Spring Institute's Vincent Bessonneau and Andrea Hindman!
This competition is the culmination of a months-long challenge, sponsored by the California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP), to surface ground-breaking prevention research ideas. Two Grand Prize winners (one advocate and one researcher) will be selected by a panel of respected experts and announced at the event. There will also be an Audience Choice Award, presented to a finalist chosen by the audience. Silent Spring needs your vote! You can attend in person or watch the event via livestream. The event will feature renowned surgeon, breast cancer prevention advocate, and author Dr. Susan Love as keynote speaker.
For those viewing remotely, the livestream will begin broadcasting at 9 am PDT on May 15 at cbcrp.org/global-challenge/livestream.html.
Despite significant advances in breast cancer treatment, people continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer at astounding rates – rates that have remained essentially unchanged over the past three decades. Of the more than $2 billion spent each year on breast cancer research, less than 10 percent is dedicated to prevention. Through the challenge, CBCRP aims to help launch an entirely new direction in breast cancer research – focused on prevention – and CBCRP will invest $15 million over five years in grant funding to develop the best ideas from the challenge.
